New video compression technology
The LU500 video compression technology is based on new, highly integrated, programmable digital media processors, with video/image hardware (HW) accelerators. The encoding engine supports as high as 1080p60 H.264 encoded resolution, and can also decode at multiple resolutions, multiple frame rates, and even transcode at multi-rate for adaptive streaming support.
Multi-processing & hardware acceleration topology
As a company experienced with fast-growing needs and application resources, we’ve built a processing infrastructure that makes the product future-proof, allowing for easy upgrade to support new capabilities without changing the hardware. This infrastructure consists of three ARM processors and one DSP based application accelerator, running in parallel. The special Linux operating system hooks balance and tailor the workload efficiently, based on each processing unit’s unique capabilities. These processing units are interconnected over an internal hi-speed parallel bus and Ethernet links, achieving excellent performance, with sufficiently low resource utilization leaving space to support any future enhancements.
Triple bandwidth capabilities
Given the many possible uplink interfaces, and in accordance with the emerging LTE & LTE–Advanced performance boost, we boosted the LU500’s packet processing performance in order to be able to fully utilize the available bandwidth. Our current uplink bandwidth can reach as high as 12Mbps aggregated bandwidth, and we expect additional 50% bandwidth increases, with future software optimization.
Dual hybrid video inputs
The dual video input interface (HD/SD-SDI & HDMI) automatically syncs to the actual video format, resolution and frame rate of the connected camera, and allows the user to go on air immediately after hooking up the video feed. This interface is based on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA); it can be easily adapted to support other interface types, where necessary.
Dynamic network access selection
The encoded signal is contributed over multiple interfaces (3G/4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, BGAN, KA-SAT and/or Micro-Wave). Our smart 3G/4G network selection mechanism intelligently take advantage of the best network for each of the modems at any given time, using the dynamic network and device information. The multi streams are linked to the remote multimedia hub server located at the TV studio, Internet site facility or simply as a cloud service that distributes the live video concurrently to multiple users / multi bit rate destinations. We kept the media servers compatible with all LiveU uplink devices, so that users can mix and match many streams from any LiveU device.
Better versatility, portability and manageability
The LU500 design supports backpack and broadcast camera-mount configurations (Gold-mount, V-mount, or PAG power systems), enabling camera operators to maneuver and broadcast high quality live video for long periods quickly without interruption or fatigue.
Our LU-Connect management platform allows our customers to independently manage their LU500, along with the other LiveU solution components, from anywhere, and manage their whole fleet from one central location at the TV studio or the operation control center.
The IFB, which provides a convenient and efficient way for the LU-Connect manager to communicate to field operators for cuing and programming guidance, will now be able to accept as many as eight independent audio channels, and direct each of them to either a specific person, or to a group of operators with broadcast messages.
Novel bonding architecture
Before we wrap up, let me explain LiveU’s multi-stream bonding architecture. Our field-proven patented bonding architecture is a conceptual model that characterizes the internal functions and data flow of a wireless and wired bidirectional data and live video streaming system. It partitions the end to end data/video delivery system into several conceptual abstraction layers which group similar data, video, wireless and traffic engineering functions into one of six logical layers. Each layer serves the layer above it and is served by the layer below it.
This layered architecture converts the complex multi-dimensional problem of live data and video delivery over non deterministic networks to a set of several single dimensional problems that can be handled and resolved almost independently. This creates robust, flexible, easy to maintain, upgradable and adaptable end to end data/video transmission solutions.
LU500 is the newest addition to LiveU’s complete family of 3G/4G bonded uplink solutions deployed in over 80 countries worldwide. Our solutions are used by international, national and regional TV & Internet channels, news agencies, sports and educational organizations and video service operators daily to cover live events, breaking news, sports and entertainment. Government agencies and public safety departments also use LiveU solutions to monitor operations and provide remote surveillance.
