The Challenge

In 2019, Rugby Africa announced a new format for the Rugby Africa Cup. Each week would see two matches played in two different host countries sometimes as far as 4000km (2400 miles) apart. Leading South African digital sports content company, Moonsport needed to find a solution that would be high quality, cost-effective and easily implemented across extreme distances with a centralized feed that could be streamed live to their Facebook page.

The Solution

Having seen LiveU’s successful live sports productions in South Africa such as the Absa Cape Epic mountain bike stage race and the Ballito Pro surf competition, Moonsport deployed LiveU’s flagship LU600 HEVC units and multi-camera remote production (REMI) solution to cover the matches. The live feeds were sent back to Moonsport’s main studio in Cape Town using LiveU’s remote at-home production solution with Precision Timing™.

“Using LiveU as a source camera feed to a studio thousands of kilometers away was definitely an incredible experience, it’s really opened my eyes and swayed me – it’s a game-changer that’s going to alter broadcasting forever.”
