Live from the Oscars – how we covered Parasite’s great night in Hollywood

February 13,2020

This was a truly historic week for Korean cinema with four Oscar wins awarded to Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite. The movie dominated the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film.

As expected, many Korean cable and news broadcasters were at the site live streaming the event with different MNG (mobile newsgathering) solutions – covering all the excitement at the press conference where they talked and answered questions about their fantastic achievement.

Even though there was poor network availability deep inside the Dolby Theatre®, our customer YTN, one of Korea’s leading news channels, successfully streamed high-quality video from the entire event, capturing the interactions with the jubilant director and actors. Using our robust LU600 HEVC units, the broadcasters were able to stream live to Korea for the live news and media companies and share the celebrations with the viewers back home. The training provided by LiveU’s field support team before ensured that the camera team on site had the knowhow to optimize the live broadcast.
