LiveU Supports Customers Broadcasting During Historic Papal Visit

September 17, 2015

LiveU to provide global news teams with additional video uplink units, dedicated Wi-Fi and credentialed engineers for onsite support

Hackensack, NJ – September 17, 2015 – LiveU, the pioneer and leader of IP-based video services and broadcast solutions for acquisition, management, and distribution, will be a key contributor of live video solutions for the historic 2015 Papal visit to Washington D.C., New York City and Philadelphia, from September 22nd through the 27th, providing a wide range of equipment, on-site customer support and enhanced connectivity. LiveU will enable its customers to deliver the best quality content during this high-demand broadcast event, in line with its track record of covering high-profile news and sports events such as the US Presidential Election, UK General Election and FIFA World Cup.

Projected to be one of the most televised events of 2015, broadcasters are already anticipating extreme conditions and challenges concerning the rapid transition between cities, intense security measures, and bandwidth limitations due to the heavy volume of broadcasters and mass crowds. The event is expected to have intense round-the-clock and live coverage. LiveU will be servicing customers in the form of extra field units for major broadcast networks, local affiliates, international networks, and online media, as well as support on the ground from credentialed LiveU engineers that will be located both inside and outside the security zones.

LiveU’s secured hotspots in each city will provide broadcasters with an extra layer of redundancy with dedicated Wi-Fi for the entire duration of the visit. LiveU will have allocated bandwidth in the form of Wi-Fi located at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, and on Independence Mall in Philadelphia. Broadcasters trust LiveU as their primary means of live transmission connectivity for major events due to the reliability of LiveU’s technology and hotspot support for their cellular bonded units.

“The Papal visit is expected to be one of the largest and most attended events to happen in 2015. We’ve seen high demand for both traditional and online media coverage for this event,” said Avi Cohen, COO and General Manager of LiveU Americas. “LiveU is helping to support our customers during this high-profile event by offering a number of options to ensure that they acquire the best quality content.”

“We have been able to equip our customers with a number of field units including transmission devices, video encoders and decoders, and vehicle solutions. We will also have our team of LiveU engineers available for on-site support, as well as secured hotspots in each city for dedicated Wi-Fi connectivity,” Cohen continued. “This event is one that will require intense coverage both around-the-clock and live; LiveU is very excited to be providingsupport for such a huge and historic event.”
