Rocket Beans Relies on LiveU Technology for Next-level Remote Production of the Gamevasion Championships

LiveU’s IP video solutions set stage for biggest live event in the history of Rocket Beans TV, facilitating a completely mobile production set-up and greater fan engagement

The Challenge

Rocket Beans Entertainment GmBH wanted to take the annual gamescom industry show to the next level with a completely mobile production setup. Organized as a joint venture between the Rocket Beans, Freaks 4U Gaming and INSTINCT3, the Gamevasion Championships involved four popular German influencers in different locations in Hamburg. The goal was to break traditional patterns of multidisciplinary gaming shows and move the shows out of the studio to location. Rocket Beans wanted to be able to cover not just the games happening live, but everything happening in-between - routes taken to each location as a "streaming road trip," extreme and dynamic shots of the games - rethinking the fan engagement.

The Solution

Rocket Beans deployed a large number of cameras, including action cams, drones and smartphone cameras, to film the gaming. Several camera crews were able to follow participants around town, utilizing a total of 12 LiveU field units to deliver broadcast-grade live video. LiveU's LU600 and LU800 multi-cam units were used to transmit the live signals from challenging and exciting locations such as a speeding rollercoaster, rooftop hotel bar on the 26th floor and a laser game venue. A tour bus of participants went from one location to the other - equipped with several cameras and LiveU technology. With each LU800 unit delivering four parallel live feeds, the bus became a mobile studio and the bus rides became part of the competition. All program elements added up to an uninterrupted three-hour live show that marked a new milestone.

"

"Our goal was to break out of traditional patterns of multidisciplinary gaming shows, to think the genre further and to move the show out of a studio to locations that could provide added value to the individual games. Thanks to the LiveU technology, we were even able to cover the routes between the different gaming locations live and to manage the production completely remotely. This allowed us to take the viewers on a literal tour ranging between a TV event and streamer road trip."

“The LU800 and its multi-camera capabilities changed the way we looked at this and accelerated our move to remote production. Before we deployed this remote production system, we had to manage and arrange schedules for our crew, including travel time. That greatly reduced the time available to both our production crew and management team. LiveU’s remote production solution makes our lives much easier and at the end of the day we can make more, and even better, content.
