University of Delaware Chorale LIVE from Jerusalem

LiveU At-Home Production Solution Makes Remote Production Possible

The Challenge

The University of Delaware wanted to feature the school’s renowned chorale in their commencement ceremony taking place during the group’s overseas tour through Jerusalem, Venice, and Paris. The Media Services department needed to find a solution to live stream the chorale’s performances from Jerusalem to the actual commencement on the Fightin’ Blue Hen football field in Delaware.

The Solution

The LiveU At-Home Production solution enabled the school to produce the live event from a centralized studio control room instead of deploying a large team and satellite truck in Israel to bring in the live feed of the chorale.  Some coordination needed to take place to wirelessly transmit live video from one location to another – in this case from across the Atlantic. First the university needed to rent a LiveU transmission solution in Israel to send the live content to the physical server back in the school’s production control room in Delaware. (With cellular technology, you must utilize units with modems specific to the carriers in the specific region.)

“The stream from Israel went perfectly. From the beginning of the event to the end of the Commencement hours later, we were solid. The audio was particularly outstanding. The LiveU unit passed audio that, combined with the natural reverb in the performance space over there, sent chills throughout the 25K audience in the stadium. It was a big win for us.”

Next they had to hire a local crew to produce a three-camera switched feed to the LiveU LU500 unit. Once the content was sent to the university, the media services department added the graphics and distributed the stream to the big screens at commencement and to the school’s website for family and friends viewing from their laptop or mobile device. Audio from the feed was also split out to the audio console on the stadium floor to feed the stadium sound system.
