Background

The record-breaking broadcast of the 2026 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas North American Championship was defined by a perfect recipe of collaboration and technical execution. This success was built on three key pillars: a seasoned professional team, creative leeway from the client, and reliable, proven technology brought forth by the LU900Q intelligent field unit, the new standard in live productions.

The Challenge: High Stakes in Tricky Terrain

The 2026 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas North American Championship isn’t just a race; it’s a 140.6-mile logistical challenge for broadcasters. With a world-class field of triathletes competing for $175,000, the stakes were high. Historically, the course in The Woodlands has been “tricky” for wireless connectivity, featuring tunnels, underpasses, and heavy tree canopies that threaten signal stability for high-speed tracking cameras.

The Solution: The LU900Q with LIQ inside

BCC Live integrated four new LiveU LU900Q field units into their mission-critical REMI workflow just one week after receiving them. These units, powered by LiveU IQ (LIQ™) AI-driven connectivity, were deployed in the most demanding roles: mounted on motorcycles traveling at 30 mph, connected to drones for aerial views, on boats, and used for roaming handheld positions with camera operators on electric unicycles, to weave through the athletes.

The BCCC Live Boulder, CO facility housed hosts providing live commentary as the feed was mixed and distributed to a massive global audience via YouTube, proseries.ironman.com, and DAZN, with specialized feeds reaching viewers in Great Britain, China, Germany, and France.

The Results: Record-Breaking Engagement

The deployment resulted in the biggest broadcast in IRONMAN Texas history. The LU900Q helped deliver a 30% increase in viewership compared to previous years, maintaining rock-solid stability for a 10-hour continuous broadcast. Roughly 584,000 unique viewers tuned in for more than 35 minutes, a new benchmark for the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series.

Built for the world’s biggest stages, the LU900Q delivered the professional specs and standards required for the demanding live production – covering everything from main broadcast to backup feeds, where picture and audio quality were non-negotiable.

“The technology issues we normally see in productions of this scale simply went away. The LU900Q outperformed every other pack, especially under bridges and trees. This allowed our team to focus on the artistry – graphics, GPS tracking, and framing the perfect shot.”
