About SFWMD

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional governmental agency that manages the water resources in the southern half of the state. The organization’s goal is to provide easy access to information and digital assets focused on the conservation and restoration of South Florida’s water supply.

These assets include live streams of public events and meetings, as well as photos and videos captured in remote locations.

The Challenge

SFWMD’s communication department was initially tasked with producing simple streams out in the everglades for wildlife biologists conducting surveys and engineers working on projects. After researching products, they purchased the plug-and-play LiveU Solo, which fit their needs at the time. However, as their projects became more elaborate, the management team wanted multiple cameras, share more content, have a high-quality stream, and have better connectivity in remote places.

The Solution

The SFWMD team explored the LiveU portfolio again and found the LU800 fit all of their needs. The team mounted the unit in their mobile truck so they could stream remote productions all over south Florida. Additionally, with the reliability of the mission-critical transmission of the LU800 with superior video and audio capabilities in 5G, they were able to scale their productions overnight. The biggest game-changer was the ability to live produce entire events on-site! SFWMD was able to rapidly evolve their capabilities – dramatically improving the speed and performance of their live stream system.

"Having that kind of connectivity, where you have a lot more confidence that your stream is not gonna go down because of some sort of fluctuation, that's a big thing."

Gabe Margasak, Head of Video/Creative Services, SFWMD
