Background

CRD Audiovisuel’s client, organizer of the Tour de France, had long provided a daily live presentation of riders at each start but wanted to bring in a video journalist for more immersive content – live paddock shots, interviews with sporting directors, meetings with mechanics, interviews with Tour management, and public interactions. The project was postponed by severe technical constraints: fewer connections at the start than the finish, and fluctuating connectivity from large crowds and bandwidth-consuming media outlets. 2026 marked a turning point.

The Challenge

In early 2026, Stéphane Reibre at CRD Audiovisuel took on the challenge, with no room for failure and no way to test on-site beforehand. The goals: the most reliable connectivity at each start, a plug-and-play setup that avoids heavy RF infrastructure, energy saved for exhausted crews, bitrate strong enough for broadcast quality, and a simple intercom system. The result: fresh, breaking content beyond the daily rider presentation – turnkey footage of starting sites and logistics, ready for broadcasters and rights holders to use as-is.

The Solution

The new LU900Q – built with the strongest antenna, modem, and eSIM technology on the market – matched Stéphane’s demanding specifications where every other option fell short. Combined with LiveU IQ (LIQ), the new AI-driven connectivity software that manages eSIM cards intelligently, the solution connects each unit to the strongest available network based on its location, drawing on years of LiveU historical data. Together, they deliver a unique proposition: proven performance even in congested, or fully saturated, network environments.

"I could never have imagined that LU900Q + LIQ would perform so well in the field. We had exactly zero problems, which, in this specific context, is a small miracle. If you’ve ever covered a Tour, you know what I mean."

Stéphane Reibre, Managing Director, CRD Audiovisuel

The Results

The LU900Q covered 99.9% of needs across the Men’s and Women’s races using only public 4G/5G – unprecedented, with no private or priority 5G. For CRD Audiovisuel, this meant lasting client trust and freedom to focus on creativity and content, as LiveU removed technical obstacles.

The client focused on its core mission while LiveU handled connectivity, even in congested or low-connectivity environments. The Tour de France, with its shifting locations, packed crowds, and remote stages, tested LiveU’s connectivity at every turn – and it delivered.
