The Challenge

GIBLIB houses the best surgical videos and medical lectures from the top surgical minds across the world. The platform is a place where the surgical community collaborates and shares information on the most innovative procedures. GIBLIB wanted to take surgical videos to the next level with a live 360-degree/VR view of international and domestic procedures. They needed a stable solution that could work in the most desolate areas and transmit high-quality content to viewers anywhere in the world.

The Solution

LiveU technology proved to be the right solution to cover surgeries in remote areas where connectivity is sparse. LiveU’s lightweight, durable encoder featured a strong web integration and multiple connectivity options to make live 360/VR a reality. GIBLIB broke barriers with the first broadcast of a live streamed hernia surgery in 360/VR to over 1,200 viewers from 50 countries. Medical student were able to converse with the surgeon during the surgery. Adding live video to its platform has helped drive traffic to GIBLIB’s website and build brand awareness in the medical field. But more importantly, the live component has helped highlight the need for global surgery.

“Live video changes how we train, learn, and experience surgery. Eighty percent of what happens in the OR is outside the body – the coordination between the surgeon, nurses, and anesthesiologist. LiveU made it possible for viewers to see the full picture from every different angle and learn from the experience.”
