THE CHALLENGE

Educating the media professionals of tomorrow, RheinMain University of Applied Sciences aims to provide students with practical work experience leading the way to the next production era. In a technological partnership with netorium AG, the university organized the 5G Media Production Hackathon. The goal of this project was for students to explore the potential of 5G outside the campus environment by deploying the latest 5G solutions for an innovative “real life” production. The university looked to source future-proof equipment from established broadcast-quality brands that the students are likely to work with in their future jobs.

“LiveU’s pioneering technology was the perfect match for the 5G Media Production Hackathon. It allowed the new generation of video producers to experience the latest 5G broadcasting solutions first-hand. Easy-to-use and strong in performance, the LU800 quickly became the key tool for our students.”

Prof. Dr. Stephan Böhm, Department of Telecommunication and Mobile Media, RheinMain University of Applied Sciences

THE SOLUTION

The RheinMain University of Applied Sciences selected LiveU’s LU800 field unit as the core piece for their mobile production set-up. Not only does the unit take 5G transmissions to a whole new level, bonding up to eight 5G connections, but it also delivers the highest video quality, with up to 4Kp60 10-bit HDR. Equipped with the signature LiveU backpack, two student production crews visited several local businesses from where they streamed live to YouTube. Targeting younger students, the live videos provided insights into career opportunities. All LiveU technology was provided and supported on-site by netorium AG, LiveU’s longtime partner in Germany.

“The more practical the students are trained, the better. netorium is always on the lookout for smart young professionals who want to shape the future of media technology with us. That's why we are happy about every collaborative initiative that we can support the universities with.”

Peter Frantz, CEO, netorium AG
