Background

Background

Golf tournaments demand multiple roaming cameras, wide-area connectivity and real-time coordination. Until now, Ghanaian broadcasters relied on highlight packages or overseas crews for major golf events and didn’t have the means to broadcast their own local tournaments live. With interest in the sport rising, organizers sought an innovative, cost-efficient model to showcase the live action and local golfing talent.

The Challenge: Delivering Reliable Live Coverage from Miles Away

The crew needed seamless, course-wide coverage with a minimal on-site footprint. Cellular signals varied across 18 holes, and roving cameras operated far from power or fiber. Meanwhile the control gallery sat off-site in Tema, demanding robust, low-latency links for commentary, graphics and clubhouse screens – all on a strict budget and same-day turnaround.

The Solution: Fast and Efficient Set-up for an Immersive Viewing Experience

Grup N2K deployed LiveU’s multi-cam LU800, compact LU300S and other field units to create a fully connected course. The LU800 multi-cam units covered the tees and greens, while the LU300S and other units followed the players, bonding SIMs from multiple carriers for rock-solid uplinks.

Feeds were delivered over the public internet to a remote-control room where the LiveU Studio cloud-native video production service handled switching, graphics and distribution to YouTube Live and clubhouse displays. Set-up took only hours, required no satellite truck, and supported instant replays and social-media clipping – offering a replicable, cost-efficient model for future tournaments.

“We are really excited about it because it’s a new experience for all of us. It was fun to watch ourselves in the TV and watch your friends playing a good or a bad shot. And the interaction, there was so much interaction with the clubbers, that were watching the matches and the crews that were out playing. I heard others club use this technology and, also sponsors that put money into it and into competitions; the feedback has been fantastic. The brand of whoever sponsors it can be so much enhanced by using this technology. I foresee this becoming a regular feature at all golf tournaments in Ghana.”
