Background: The Rise of Social-First Broadcasting

As media consumption shifts toward digital platforms, leading brands and content creators are moving beyond traditional broadcast models to embrace high-production, social-first live events. Today’s digital audiences demand linear-grade quality natively formatted for where they engage most. For Amazon Prime’s inaugural Obsessed Fest, the goal wasn’t merely to stream an event, but to build an immersive, 9:16 vertical broadcast designed specifically for TikTok from the ground up. By leveraging the LiveU EcoSystem, Broadcast Management Group (BMG) proved that complex, multi-camera social-first productions can achieve broadcast reliability and massive digital reach, while maintaining extraordinarily lean production workflows.

The Challenge: Potential Cell Congestion & Complex Vertical Workflow

Streaming Amazon Prime’s inaugural Obsessed Fest exclusively to TikTok presented a massive technical challenge. Held across the Nya Studios lot in Hollywood, CA, the star-studded festival featured 30+ talent interviews, an Amazon Music lounge, and a headline set by Jennifer Lopez. Conceived and executed in just three weeks, the complex production required single-point accountability with zero margin for error. Additionally, roughly 1,000 attendees packed the venue, heavily flooding local cellular networks. BMG needed a resilient remote production (REMI) infrastructure capable of routing 12 live camera feeds and 16 total records across the congested lot directly to its Network Operations Center (NOC) in Washington, DC, while simultaneously giving a 20-person remote editing team real-time access to live footage.

The Solution: Cloud-Native Live Production

BMG deployed a turnkey workflow leveraging the LiveU EcoSystem. Onsite, BMG utilized LiveU LU800 multi-camera units to transmit 12 live feeds including roving handhelds, Steadicam, main stage PTZs, and compact indoor units – directly to the DC NOC for switching, graphics, and playout. To overcome severe cell congestion, BMG deployed LiveU IQ™ (LIQ™) to dynamically manage bandwidth. By continuously evaluating network conditions in real time, LIQ automatically selected the optimal connection for every SIM on the fly. On the backend, BMG utilized cloud-native LiveU Ingest to continuously record 16 clean and dirty feeds. This allowed BMG’s 20 decentralized editors to instantly access, trim, and publish TikTok-native clips while live recording was underway, all without needing expensive on-premise capture hardware.

The Results: Record-breaking views and engagement

With LiveU’s rock-solid pipeline handling the transmission, the Obsessed Fest live broadcast ran seamlessly for eight hours without a single dropout. The TikTok stream peaked at nearly 850,000 concurrentviewers – dramatically outperforming the 1,500 physical attendees and staff on site – and generated

record-breaking digital engagement among Amazon Prime’s target young adult audience. LiveU Ingest enabled BMG to scale recording capacity up for the marathon event and down immediately after, delivering exceptional operational agility and rapid social publishing.

Conclusion: A New Standard for Digital-First Live Events

The project established a successful blueprint for social-first, linear-grade live event broadcasts executed at lean incremental production costs, providing Amazon Prime and BMG with a proven framework to expand the franchise in the future.

“A show built for TikTok doesn’t get a smaller production plan, it gets a smarter one. “We ran single-cam and multi-cam setups off the same LU800 units, including four PTZ cameras through one unit with IP Pipe as our only connection to the outside world. No extra gear needed. That’s what let us stay lean on site while still holding a broadcast standard. Once LIQ proved it could hold steady in a cell-congested scenario, we stopped worrying about the pipeline and just focused on the show.”
