Producing live television from a remote island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean presents major technical and logistical challenges.
This case study shows how a creative production team leveraged the LiveU Studio cloud production solution and LiveU’s compact LU300 and LU300S units with Starlink connectivity to deliver four days of live coverage, overcoming limited connectivity, cameras operating from moving boats at sea, and extreme logistical constraints.
Broadcasting a live sporting event from Rapa Nui, located five hours by flight from mainland Chile, is a challenge. The island offers minimal infrastructure and complex operational conditions.
In 2025, the Panamerican Boat Championship required covering four days of competition with eight hours of broadcast per day, and the Chilean production company Claqueta was responsible for the coverage.
The competition took place at sea while the control room was located on land without a line of sight. The team needed to deliver broadcast-quality coverage for international audiences.
Producing the event involved several key operational :
The production required a portable, reliable, and cost-efficient solution capable of operating under complex logistical conditions.
The production team implemented a design by Simón Suárez (Dynamics Media Group) and Claudio Ramírez (Claqueta). They developed a production to capture signals from boats and send them in real time.
Smartphones were connected to LiveU’s LU300 and LU300S units on each boat, enabling video transmission. To ensure broadcast reliability, the team also deployed LiveU’s LU800 at the production base. Boats were equipped with Starlink for satellite internet access. Video feeds transmitted were managed through LiveU Studio. The broadcast feed streamed to YouTube, allowing audiences to follow the competition.
“For a future production I would definitely like to incorporate Live Video Return and Audio Room so the entire team can stay connected during the broadcast. I was left with the positive feeling that I can achieve much more production at lower cost while maintaining broadcast-quality standards.”
Claudio Ramírez, Executive Producer at Claqueta

This project demonstrates how IP-based workflows and cloud production platforms enable live broadcasting from virtually anywhere on the planet.
“This project confirmed once again that LiveU technology performs rock-solid even in the most challenging environments.”
