Background

A typical livestream broadcast follows a familiar pattern: large crews, fixed cameras, massive amounts of gear and cabling, and a strict reliance on whatever network infrastructure the venue provides. It works, but it lacks flexibility and isn’t built for moving fast.

At NAB 2026 in Las Vegas, production house Social180Group proved there is a different way to approach live events. Utilizing their “Live Anywhere” framework, a lean crew produced 20 livestreams over four days across the congested show floor and nearby locations. Moving between booths, shooting real-time interviews, running a daily show, and even streaming from a nearby hotel venue, the team stayed completely mobile and remote.

“The goal is to enable brands to take a live production in a lightweight format and broadcast without the constraints of a large production team or high budget costs”

John Porterfield, Founder, Social180Group

The Challenge

The NAB show floor is one of the most challenging environments for live broadcasting. With massive crowds, sprawling exhibition halls, heavy RF interference, and constantly shifting network conditions, traditional workflows struggle. Most live stream productions rely on venue Wi-Fi or expensive hardlined connections, which quickly become unreliable when thousands of attendees connect simultaneously, driving up production complexity while lowering reliability.

To maintain an agile, “run-and-gun” indie production mindset, Social180Group needed to move rapidly between locations without stopping to rebuild hardware setups, coordinate with venue IT, or get tethered by heavy cabling.

The Solution

Social180Group bypassed local network limitations entirely by building their workflow around the LiveU EcoSystem. For field transmission, they deployed the compact LiveU Solo PRO paired with a handheld LUMIX S1II camera over HDMI, and a Panasonic UB-50 box camera connected via SDI to LiveU’s flagship LU800 production unit.

The LU800 integrated LiveU IQ (LIQ), an AI-driven connectivity solution designed to maximize cellular bonding resilience and reliability, for live video transmissions. By combining multiple cellular signals into one stable connection, the team achieved complete network independence.

Shifting the Control Room to the Cloud

Instead of deploying a massive onsite crew, the footprint on the show floor was kept to just a camera operator and wireless handheld microphones. The rest of the production was virtualized in the cloud. Social180Group utilized LiveU Studio as their cloud-based control room, allowing technical directors in Montreal and Seattle, alongside a graphics operator in California, to handle live switching, HTML-based graphics via Tagboard, playback, and recording seamlessly. The entire distributed team stayed locked-in via LiveU Web Audio Connect for real-time communication.

Unlimited Creativity & Results

By virtualizing the control room with LiveU Studio and leveraging bonded cellular units, Social180Group successfully delivered 20 high-quality livestreams over a demanding four-day schedule. The freestyle, handheld approach enabled by the LUMIX S1II’s image stabilization allowed the camera operator to react dynamically to unscripted moments on the floor, enhancing the organic experience for viewers.

The workflow optimized post-event ROI, reframing the content into 16:9 and 9:16 vertical clips for TikTok simultaneously, maximizing deliverables without doubling the workload.

For brands, this combination of LiveU hardware and cloud production completely changes the timeline of event engagement, turning a traditional one-way delay broadcast into an active, interactive, two-way experience using QR codes and real-time audience Q&As.

"We’re completely independent from any local network. That independence is one of the biggest advantages of the workflow. It removes a common failure point and lets the team focus on the production instead of the connection."
